NCSE welcomes new cohort of Sound Science Fellows

NCSE's Sound Science Fellows.

The National Center for Science Education welcomes its third cohort of Sound Science Fellows. The six new fellows join other higher education faculty and museum educators to enhance professional learning opportunities in climate science, evolution, and the nature of science for K-12 science teachers, identify and resolve common misconceptions about those topics, and conduct research to develop best practices for science education.

The 2027 fellows are: Tajma Cameron, Assistant Professor of Science Education and Research Faculty at the National Center for the Elimination of Educational Disparities (NCEED) at Morgan State University; Pradeep (Max) Dass, Professor of Science Education at The University of Texas at Tyler; Jennifer Kreps Frisch, Associate Professor and Department Head of Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth; Daniel Pimentel, Assistant Professor of Science Education at the University of Alabama; Jennifer Redfearn, Senior STEM Specialist for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching; and Ryan Summers, Associate Professor of Science Education at the University of North Dakota

The NCSE Sound Science Fellowship is a competitive research and service program providing networking opportunities for academics who share NCSE's passion for improving science education. Fellows will engage with NCSE's Science Education and Outreach program in an effort to better understand and redefine the teaching and learning of climate science, evolution, and the nature of science. For the two-year commitment, each Sound Science Fellow will receive a $3,000 honorarium, multiple opportunities to engage with their cohort and other educators nationwide, and amplification of work that improves science education.

"I could not be more excited to welcome this new group of distinguished scholars and academics into the Sound Science Fellowship," NCSE President and CEO Amanda L. Townley said. "They will continue the mission of this fellowship, now in its third year, to combat anti-science sentiment and the proliferation of misconceptions and disinformation about science, fulfilling a critical need.”

Meet all the NCSE Sound Science Fellows.
