Evidence for evolution by natural selection is right here on your body: your skin. So says anthropologist and paleobiologist Nina Jablonski, the Evan Pugh Professor of Anthropology at Pennsylvania State University, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, and author of the books Skin: A Natural History and Living Color: The Biological and Social Meaning of Skin Color, and the co-author of Skin We Are In. Her work focuses on the evolution of skin color and the fallacies of skin-color-based race concepts. Jablonski is a long-time supporter of NCSE and its work to ensure the teaching of accurate science to public-school children across the nation and spoke to us recently as part of our NCSE Member Spotlight series.
