• Do you have a passion for climate science, evolution, or the nature and practice of science as a field?
  • Are you concerned about anti-science sentiment, distrust in science, and educators' challenges in accurately teaching science?
  • Do you want to expand your network and understanding while positively impacting the teaching and learning of these topics in classrooms nationwide?

If so, join NCSE as a Sound Science Fellow!

What is it? The NCSE Sound Science Fellowship is a partnership between the National Center for Science Education and higher education faculty or museum educators who share our mission and vision. The fellowship is an integral part of NCSE’s Supporting Teachers Program, providing professional learning opportunities to K-12 science teachers, developing new approaches to resolve misconceptions, engaging in discourse surrounding the challenges teachers and learners face with topics that are seen as “controversial” to the public, and conducting research to develop best practices for approaching the teaching and learning of topics such as evolution and climate change.
What do Fellows get out of it?
  • A network of professionals and educators with a shared passion for improving science education.
  • An honorarium of $1500 per year for two years as a fellow.
  • Opportunities for research/publication, outreach content, supporting teacher professional learning, and redefining the teaching and learning of climate and evolution.
  • Opportunities to learn with scientists, educators, and science teacher educators to impact science education approaches and practices.
  • New skills in science communication, outreach, and public advocacy for science education.
What are the commitments?
  • Attend one two-day seminar per summer for learning, networking, and content development (plus the potential to attend future seminars as a guest).
  • Create content and engage in programs in your area/region.
  • Attend between four to six Zoom meetings each year for conversation and preparation.
  • Facilitate/host and attend one professional learning experience at your campus/institution during your term as a fellow.
  • Bring your experience and expertise to bear to positively impact the teaching of climate science, evolution, and the nature of science.
