Hawaii's House Bill 99 (PDF) would, if enacted, require the state department of education to "establish a climate literacy certificate program to prepare high school students in addressing the economic and social impacts of climate change."

The department would establish program requirements and approved courses for the certificate, which would include the completion of at least two courses with climate literacy standards and an experiential learning project. A so far unspecified amount would be appropriated to fund the climate literacy certificate program.

Introduced by Amy A. Perusso (D-District 46), the majority whip, and six of her colleagues in the House of Representatives, the bill was prefiled on January 13, 2025, and is not yet assigned to a committee.
