Climate Change in my Community: Shrinking Glaciers: Why We’re Losing Ice and Why It Matters

Study the evidence of glacial retreat the way glaciologists do!

Choose from three modular activities, developed by NCSE Graduate Student Outreach Fellow Meera Sethi, to achieve linked learning goals. In the first, historic vs. contemporary photos of the same glaciers dramatically illustrate the retreat of mountain ice. In In the second, "glacier goo" in cups gives participants a hands-on opportunity to measure changes the way glaciologists do. In the third, a simple guessing game demonstrates how glaciers act as a major fresh water storage system for humans, plants, and wildlife.
