Maryland's House Bill 620 (PDF) would, if enacted, require the state's governor annually to proclaim the first week of April as Maryland Climate Education Week.
The proclamation would urge the state's residents to "participate in educational activities and initiatives that promote an awareness of climate change" and "take action toward the State's climate commitments."
Introduced by Gabriel M. Moreno (D-District 13) and two of his colleagues in the House of Delegates on January 30, 2026, the bill was assigned to the House Government, Labor, and Elections committee.
In the previous legislative session, the identical House Bill 993 (PDF) sailed through the House on a 100-3 vote but then died in a Senate committee, as NCSE previously reported.
