North Dakota's Senate Bill 2355 (PDF), which would have required the state superintendent of public instruction to "include intelligent design in the state science content standards for elementary, middle, and high school students," was defeated in the Senate on a 22-25 vote on February 24, 2025.
The Senate Education Committee heard the bill on February 12, 2025, recommending that it not pass on a 4-1 vote. Among the organizations testifying against the bill were the North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders, the North Dakota School Boards Association, and the Department of Biological Sciences at North Dakota State University.
