Writing in the July 2022 issue of Scientific American, journalist Katie Worth described in detail how the fossil fuel industry sought to undermine the treatment of climate change in Texas's new state science standards as they were under development.

"In little-watched venues," she warns, "the industry continues to downplay the crisis it has wrought, impeding efforts to provide clear science about that crisis to a young generation whose world will be defined by it."

Two relevant initiatives in which NCSE joined the Texas Freedom Network to support the integrity of science education in Texas are discussed in the article: the "Making the Grade?" report and a statement signed by dozens of Texas climate scientists.

Worth is the author of Miseducation: How Climate Change Is Taught in America (2021), which she discussed with NCSE's Deputy Director Glenn Branch at a Third Place Books event (see below) and with NCSE Executive Director Ann Reid on a Climate One podcast.
